About the course
This introduction to suicide awareness training course was funded by the Zero Suicide Alliance and Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust and developed in collaboration with His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Services (HMPPS) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ).
Who the training is for
It has been co-designed with HMPPS staff and prison leavers to support staff working in the probation service and approved premises to:
- Recognise and better understand some of the unique challenges faced by staff and prison leavers
- Identify potential suicide warning signs
- Prepare staff to have a conversation with someone that may be at elevated suicide risk
- Know where to signpost someone to for further/ongoing support
How long does the training take?
The training takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and includes a certificate on completion.
The training is mandatory for all staff working in approved premises and is required learning for all probation staff.
Where do HMPPS staff find the training?
This training is only available to HMPPS employees or Independent Approved Premises Staff as the training is accessed on the MyLearning platform.
