The reasons behind suicide are often complex. Understanding more about some of the things that can contribute to a person being at increased risk of suicide can help us take steps that may potentially help prevent suicide.

The things that can make someone more vulnerable to suicidal thoughts and behaviours are called suicide risk factors. Risk factors show things that could mean someone is at heightened risk of suicide but doesn’t necessarily mean a person is feeling suicidal.

The pages within our A-Z guide, share more about some of the different suicide risk factors. We'll be adding more information to this section over the coming months.
