Islington Council

Islington Council is the local authority for the borough of Islington in London providing services and support to local residents.

Islington Council have a commitment to suicide prevention and awareness as set out in our suicide prevention strategy and action plan. This strategy was developed by the Public Health Team with the support of the Camden and Islington Suicide Prevention Partnership.

We believe that:

  1. Suicide is preventable
  2. It’s safe to talk about suicide
  3. Suicide prevention is everyone’s business

A key priority is to support staff to have the confidence and skills to talk to people who may be thinking about suicide and to direct them towards places of support.

Encouraging staff to complete the ZSA training is an important step towards making this happen.

Becoming a ZSA member further solidifies our commitment to suicide prevention.

Our local suicide prevention strategy sets out four key priorities:

  1. Build a partnership for suicide prevention
  2. Increase support to key high-risk groups, including those who self-harm, people bereaved by suicide, middle aged men and people in suicidal crisis
  3. Enable a skilled workforce, confident to address suicide risk
  4. Improve data collection, monitoring and insight
